Windshield Replacement Experts

Why Windshield Repair Matters. Especially in BC

A windshield is made of two layers of glass bonded with a PVB (polyvinyl butyral) interlayer — which is what allows certain chips and short cracks to be repaired without replacing the entire glass. This is fundamentally different from rear and side windows, which are single-layer tempered glass that cannot be repaired.

On BC’s roads — particularly on Highway 1, Highway 99, the Coquihalla, and the Sea-to-Sky corridor — rock chip damage is a near-daily hazard. The smart move is to have chips repaired the moment you notice them. Temperature swings, road vibration, and car wash pressure can all turn a repairable chip into a spreading crack overnight.

Common causes of back glass damage

Don't leave a broken rear window overnight

An open rear window exposes your car to weather damage, theft, and water intrusion that can destroy upholstery, electronics, and structural components. Call us for emergency same-day back glass replacement in Vancouver.

All Chip Types Repaired

Types of Windshield Damage We Evaluate & Repair

Our technicians assess each windshield individually. Here are the most common damage types we see on Vancouver roads.

Rock Chip / Bullseye

Impact chip from road debris. Circular break with a central impact point. Usually fully repairable when under 1 inch. The most common windshield damage type in BC.

Star Break

Radiating cracks from a central impact, forming a star shape. Repairable when individual cracks are short and chip is within size limits.

Short Crack

A linear crack under 3 inches, not at the edge, not in the driver's view. Can often be repaired with specialized crack injection resin to prevent spreading.

Combination Break

Mixed bullseye and star break damage from a single impact. Very common on BC highways. Repairable when within size and location limits.

Half-Moon Chip

Crescent-shaped break from an angled impact. Frequently repairable depending on depth and location. Less visible after repair than a full bullseye.

Long Crack (Replacement Required)

Cracks over 3 inches, edge cracks, or cracks in the driver's view zone require full windshield replacement — not repair. We'll advise you honestly which applies.

How We Repair It

The Windshield Repair Process at Avenue Auto Glass

Every repair follows the same precision process. Most are completed in 45–60 minutes with no appointment needed for walk-ins.

Damage Assessment

We inspect the chip or crack — size, depth, type, location — and confirm whether it qualifies for repair or requires replacement.

Cleaning & Prep

The damaged area is cleaned to remove moisture, dirt, and loose glass. This step is critical for proper resin adhesion.

Resin Injection

Precision-injected optical-grade resin fills the damage under controlled pressure, bonding the glass and restoring structural strength.

UV Cure & Surface Polish

Resin cured with UV light, then polished flush. Repair is complete — drive away immediately. No wait time required.

Modern Vehicle Technology

ADAS Calibration After Windshield Replacement

Most vehicles manufactured after 2016 have at least one camera or sensor mounted to or near the windshield. These systems — collectively called Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) — control features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and pedestrian detection.

When a windshield is replaced, the camera’s field of view changes — even fractionally. This small shift can cause ADAS to misread road conditions, trigger false alerts, or fail to respond in an emergency. ADAS recalibration is not optional on equipped vehicles — it’s a safety requirement.

Avenue Auto Glass performs both static and dynamic ADAS calibration in-house, using manufacturer-approved targets and software. We’ll tell you upfront whether your vehicle requires calibration.

Don't see your vehicle? Call us — we calibrate ADAS on virtually all makes and models available in Canada.

Why Avenue Auto Glass

What Makes Our Windshield Replacement Different

We’ve built Vancouver’s most trusted auto glass shop on one principle: do the job right the first time.

High Quality Laminated Glass

We only install glass that meets or exceeds original equipment standards for thickness, clarity, UV coating, and acoustic performance. No cheap imports that compromise visibility or safety.

ADAS Camera Recalibration

Vehicles with lane departure warning, automatic braking, or adaptive cruise control require ADAS recalibration after windshield replacement. We perform this in-house — no second shop visit needed.

ICBC Repair Network — Fully Approved

Pickup truck back glass includes both fixed rear glass and sliding rear window configurations. We replace both types, including popular sliding-glass models on Ford, Chevrolet, RAM, and Toyota trucks.

Safe Drive-Away Time Respected

After windshield replacement, adhesive requires curing time before it’s safe to drive. We follow manufacturer-specified safe drive-away times (typically 1–2 hours) — we never rush this critical step.

Lifetime Workmanship Warranty

Every windshield replacement comes backed by our lifetime warranty against installation defects — including leaks, wind noise, and seal failures. If it’s not right, we fix it free.

FAQ

Windshield Repair Questions

Still unsure? Call our team, we’re happy to assess your situation and give you an honest answer over the phone, free of charge.

How long does side window replacement take?
Most side window replacements are completed in 1–2 hours. Unlike windshield replacement, side glass uses no adhesive curing — you can drive away immediately after installation. We’ll clean all glass fragments from inside the door and test the window regulator before returning your vehicle.
